Can we still trust taxi drivers these days?

We gathered info about the sentiments of people taking the public transportation everyday and the ones taking taxis every once in a while when their cars hit the auto repair shops for maintenance.

A staggering 87% of the respondents say that taxis can never be trusted here in the metro and the main reason behind it... "Most taxi drivers are 'dishonest'... You give them a hundred bucks for an eighty-peso-trip and you'll be forced to say goodbye to your twenty-peso change because they're not going to return it anymore..." as one of the respondents commented during an interview.

Their 'alibis' are all unsurprisingly the same when you ask them. "Kulang na kulang ang kita sa pasada..." Truly it is, as it's the same with the 'jeepney drivers', the bus drivers, tricycle drivers etcetera etcetera but that doesn't give them a free pass to be so INSENSITIVE (maging makapal ang mukha) and get the changes all the time.

Then again not all taxi drivers are like them. It's just that the number of cases and complaints against dishonest drivers is significantly increasing. Now that's alarming... Does that also mean that honest people now are also getting extinct?

Drive around the city and you're going to see with your own eyes who are those dominant traffic violators on the road. Turn your dashcams on and, for sure, they will capture recordings of most taxis violating simple traffic rules... and what's worse is that they are also "road headaches"... Their driving skill sucks that even causes major traffic on the road, add the rough attitude that is simply notable and HVALA! You got yourself in absolute trouble.

The only reason why people still take taxis is because they don't have any choice. Who would want to get in an out-fashioned stinky old rusty taxi with a possibility of getting robbed while on their way somewhere.

"In my years of experience riding taxis, there's only one city in the country where ALL taxi drivers are honest and can truly be trusted. It's the city where the president hails... the city of DAVAO... they give changes even if it's only 50 cents"... a taxi rider said.

You'll eventually realize why the taxi industry in Metro Manila is falling because they, themselves, let senseless incidents happen... It isn't the TNVS who should be blamed but their carelessness to preserve the industry is what killed it.

How do you save those good taxi drivers who are honest and considerate? They have no other means but to take the wheels in order to raise their families... What do you think will happen to their kids? Uneducated? and that's where everything starts. You can't respect others if you don't know how to do it. In the same way that you can't do your job well if you are simply uneducated.

And the cycle goes on... with no development and no progress...
